Another reserve outing at Burton Albion. No tennis in the afternoon this time and no cramp. Won 4-3, wee Willie Carlin was at the game. Found out that Steve Buckley, who I played with at Ilkeston Town in the Southern League, had signed for Luton Town. He didn’t stop long at the Manor Ground but then with his left foot, a blunderbuss of a weapon, he was always likely to have a chance at the higher level.

Thursday, August 15

The team sheet goes up for the first game of the season, at Bristol Rovers on Saturday. Not included, not even as the travelling reserve. Flash is named as substitute. Pissed off with the gaffer but then he has plenty of reasons to reciprocate the feeling.
